FAQ

Q: What is a PTA?
A: PTA is an acronym for "Parent Teacher Association".

Q: Who's a member of the PTA?
A: Somervale School PTA represents the Parents, Guardians, Carers, Friends and Teachers plus other staff at Somervale School. Every parent, guardian and carer at the school is automatically a member of the PTA, whether or not they attend meetings or become a committee member; and the PTA as an organisation welcomes the views of all parents, guardians, carers, friends, teachers and students.
.

Q: What does the PTA do?
A: The PTA is involved in various events held within the school such as Xmas Panto, Presentation Evening and Parents Evenings where the PTA provides refreshments. Some events, such as discos and dances, are organised primarily by the PTA. The PTA works hard to make these events as successful as possible and usually raises money at them, as well as havng fun and enjoyment doing these events.

We also run background fundraising schemes such as Weather Lottery - see 'How we fundraise' for a fuller list.

Q: I am a busy working parent  or have other committments so how can I help?
A: You don't have to become a committee member, you don't have to come to meetings but you can be on our Helpers List for the one or two events where assistance is required - see 'How can you help'  for further details.

You could take on a background job which you could do at home such as design posters.

Also, you could give your support by partaking in the fundraising events; you could make donations towards events such as donating a prize; or by using the  Armchair fundraising schemes. These schemes are ideal for the busy person whom just can't give physical support or whom can't come to events but who wish to support the PTA.  The schemes allow this type of support to been given from the comfort of your home or armchair with ease and, in many occasions, with near nil cost to you - see 'How we fundraise' for further details.
